Very early set of 6 Domus chairs by Ilmari Tapiovaara. Manufactured by De Coene for Knoll International.

This is a rare version with square brass joints instead of the usual interlocking screws in the back.

Fully untouched original condition, wonderful patina. Solid with no structural problems at all, still suitable for daily use.

 

Designed for the Domus Academica in Helsinki in 1946, the Domus chair marked the start of Ilmari Tapiovaara's international career. 

This iconic chair is one of the masterpieces of Scandinavian design.

 

The Domus chair is an extremely versatile piece of furniture intended to be suitable for various uses, the armrests are short to make it possible to draw the chair close to a table while still offering a lot of support. 

 

Material: birch plywood and solid wood
